Middletown Cancels Football Season
In a written statement Wednesday afternoon, Middletown Area School District Superintendent Chelton Hunter announced that the 2022 Middletown football season has been cancelled.
The decision was made after an additional video surfaced showing a hazing incident. That incident is being investigated by Dauphin County police.
The district had previously said they considered cancelling the season, but decided against it after considering the effect that doing so would have on other students. However, after the additional video surfaced on Wednesday the decision was made to cancel the season. The additional video showed the hazing incident was much more widespread and involved many more students than the district had previously known.
Head Coach Scott Acri stepped down from his position last week with Rob Brodish being named acting head coach.
Teams that had been scheduled to face Middletown will receive wins via forfeit, but are able to find replacements for those games.
