Juniata vs Selinsgrove - A Look Back

BY FRED PARNELL, JUNIATA FOOTBALL PAST & PRESENT

Selinsgrove 38. Juniata 8

I may have been the only one, but I left Klingensmith Stadium last night feeling optimistic.

Yes, the Indians fell to Selinsgrove 38-8, but I saw a lot of improvement despite the absence of three injured players. Selinsgrove was as advertised; a talented team with no apparent weaknesses. And in my opinion, a team that would beat Troy.

But let’s talk about the Indians. They played well! They had only one turnover. Unfortunately, the Seals had none. We also suffered a safety early in the second half that seemed to ignite the Selinsgrove offense.

Again this week, I was impressed with the Juniata passing game. All they have to work on is giving the quarterback better protection. But again, attribute some of that to Selinsgrove; they have an attacking defense.

Despite giving up three dozen plus points, the defense played well. We just weren’t equipped to handle the speed and power of the Selinsgrove running game.
This was year two of a two year contract with Selinsgrove. Prior to kickoff, I spoke with Juniata Athletic DIrector Travis Quici and he informed me the Seals will remain of the schedule for at least two more years, as a new contract is in place. I’m glad. They will provide an early season yardstick for the state of our program. And, it is less than an hour bus ride. This game needs to stay on the schedule.

In summation, we lost and fall to 0-2 but frankly that is not a surprise. We have one more powerhouse to deal with before we move into Division play. A trip to West Perry is next on our list, and they are once again loaded. Hopefully, we will continue to improve and give the Mustangs a run for their money.
Don’t abandon hope, it’s going to get better!!!!!
